Oakland, CA November 3, 2014
In collaboration with NORML Business Alliance and Denver Mart, Oaksterdam University (OU) will host classes and offer certification at the upcoming Indo Expo Trade Show in Denver, CO, starting with a Classic Basic Seminar and ending with Budtending and Patient Relations training. Both courses will focus on the core aspects needed to gain employment or work with cannabusinesses, and will be held in The Denver Mart Expo Building in Denver, CO.
“As an early adopter of medicinal and adult marijuana, Colorado has many new and growing cannabis businesses looking for comprehensive training from dependable sources such as ours,” said Dale Sky Jones, Executive Chancellor of OU. “They need qualified employees. OU has been training people interested in cannabis since 2007, and we’re happy to be offering this education locally to people wanting to open a business or train current staff in Colorado.”
On Friday and Saturday, November 14 and 15, OU will present the Classic Basic Seminar from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm each day. This class teaches students the basics of entering the cannabis business, including the politics, history, and science of cannabis, as well as methods of ingestion, horticulture, and federal and state laws and responsibilities. OU’s Budtending Seminar, the addendum to the Basic Course, which instructs participants in the areas of patient relations, budtending, procurement and allocation, and the medical and adult regulations of Colorado’s dispensing law, will be held November 16 from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm.
OU is also sponsoring a Public Job Fair, open to the public on Sunday, November 16, at the Indo Expo from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Participants must be 21 years old or older; cost to participate is $20 at the door, but free for those enrolled in the Budtending Course. “This is an excellent opportunity to put qualified candidates in front of employers of choice,” added Jones.
Certifications are available for the Classic Basic Seminar and the combination of the Classic Basic Seminar and the Budtending Seminar. Cost for the Classic Basic Seminar is $495; cost for both the Classic Basic Seminar and the Budtending Seminar is $595 and includes admission into the Expo and Job Fair on Sunday. An early bird discount is available by enrolling one week before class start.
