DENVER, CO June 4, 2014
Dixie Holdings, LLC., one of America’s first revolutionaries in THC-infused edibles, topicals and tinctures, today announced the formation of Dixie Brands, Inc., a Delaware corporation. Formed for the primary purpose of managing the licenses and intellectual property of Dixie Elixirs & Edibles and establishing the manufacturing and distribution relationships for those products, Dixie Brands, Inc. will be responsible for the national expansion of the Dixie brand and products, in markets across the country which offer their citizens access to legal marijuana.
In operation and serving medical and recreational customers since 2010, Dixie Elixirs & Edibles, through its licensed manufacturer, Leftbank, LLC, has operated solely in Colorado serving over 400 of the approximately 500 state-regulated retail outlets. With the formation of Dixie Brands, Inc., the Company plans to enter a minimum of five additional markets by the end of 2014.
“Today’s announcement is the culmination of more than four years of blood, sweat and tears given by all of our team members, to create a brand that we could confidently take to a national audience,” said Tripp Keber, President and CEO of Dixie Brands. “To be clear, this opportunity is due in part to the support of our incredible Colorado customers, as well as the legalization efforts of organizations like the National Cannabis Industry Association and the Marijuana Policy Project. I am proud of what we have built, the quality and consistency of the products we have perfected and we look forward to sharing the future of cannabis with new markets around the country.”
The Details
The potential for a national roll out is significant, with 20 states plus Washington, D.C. providing access to medical marijuana, along with Colroado and Washington, which also offer adult use, or recreational marijuana. It is widely expected that six additional states with pending legislation will provide access to some form of legalized medical marijuana by the end of the year. With these additional states, approximately half the country will have access to some form of marijuana, whether medical or adult use.
Given the complexity of individual state regulation, Dixie Brands will establish manufacturing and distribution agreements with state approved license holders in each market. The terms of those agreements will be negotiated on a state-by-state basis. The Company is currently in detailed discussions with license holders in Arizona, California, Canada, Colorado, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, Nevada, Rhode Island and Washington.
“We have long recognized that the potential for the Dixie brand would not end with Colorado and we have always positioned ourselves in the center of the national dialogue around legalized marijuana,” added Chuck Smith, Chief Operating Officer of Dixie Brands. “It is our intent to demonstrate to other states around the country that marijuana businesses can be operated efficiently, effectively, profitably and most importantly, safely.”
